Why Choose Professional Full Immersion Rug Washing?
All rugs are not created equal. While some are made to last, using natural fibers, such as Persian rugs, others are delicate, handmade works of art, like Oriental rugs. That's why we highly recommend having them cleaned at our state-of-the-art, full-immersion rug wash spa. Unlike in-home services, our full-immersion rug wash spa enables us to utilize powerful yet gentle machinery in a controlled environment to remove embedded dirt, odors, and pet stains without damaging the fibers.
How We Clean Area Rugs
- Pre-Inspection: Each rug is thoroughly inspected to assess its condition, fiber type, construction, dyes, and existing damage or staining.
- Documentation: Photos and notes are taken to record the rug’s condition before cleaning. This ensures transparency and proper care
- Colorfastness Testing: We test for dye stability to ensure the colors will not bleed or fade during the cleaning process.
- Tagging and Identification: Every rug is tagged with a unique identification label to ensure it stays with your order throughout the entire process.
- Dry Soil Removal – Rug Dusting: Rugs go through our state-of-the-art rug dusting machine, which gently vibrates the fibers to remove deep-seated dry soil, dust, and allergens that vacuuming alone can’t reach.
- Pre-Vacuuming (if necessary): Heavily soiled rugs may receive a thorough vacuuming to remove additional surface debris before shampooing.
- Pre-Treatment for Spots and Stains: Stubborn spots or high-traffic areas are treated with specialized solutions to begin breaking down oils and residues.
- Fringe Pre-Treatment: Fringes are treated separately to loosen soil and restore brightness before the main wash.
- Full Shampoo – Front & Back: Rugs are gently scrubbed by hand or machine on both sides with a wool-safe or fiber-appropriate shampoo to release embedded dirt and odors.
- Fringe Cleaning and Detailing: Fringes are carefully scrubbed, rinsed, and combed to restore their clean, neat appearance.
- Full Immersion Bath: Rugs are fully submerged in our state-of-the-art cleaning pit where soils, residues, and contaminants are gently flushed out.
- Agitation and Grooming in the Wash Pit: While submerged, rugs are gently agitated by hand or tools to ensure even, thorough cleaning.
- Soft Water Rinse: Rugs are rinsed with soft water to eliminate any detergent residue, leaving the fibers clean and soft.
- Centrifuge Water Extraction: Rugs are spun in a centrifuge machine, which removes 95% of moisture quickly and efficiently without causing damage.
- Final Rinse Cycle (if needed): Rugs requiring additional rinsing go through a second rinse to ensure all contaminants are removed.
- Controlled Drying – Hang Dry Overnight: Rugs are hung in our climate-controlled drying environment, where air movement and temperature are carefully regulated to prevent shrinkage or mildew.
- Post-Cleaning Inspection and Touch-Up: After drying, rugs are inspected again. If necessary, they receive additional stain removal, grooming, or fringe touch-up to meet our quality standards.
- Customer Notification and Pickup or Delivery: Once fully cleaned and approved, rugs are rolled, wrapped, and made ready for pickup or scheduled delivery—fresh, clean, and spa-treated.

Clean
- Vacuum a Few Times a Week: Regular vacuuming will prevent dirt and debris from becoming embedded in the fibers of your rug. However, be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your brush bar; instead, use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
- DO NOT Sweep It: Sweeping your rug can damage the fibers, and if it’s an Oriental rug, the bristles of your broom could change the weave pattern.
- Spot Clean Your Rug: No matter how careful you are with your rug, accidents are bound to happen. Make sure to spot clean the stain immediately. Then blot the stain with a white cloth, as a colored cloth may transfer dye or intensify the stain. After the stain is less saturated, pour some club soda, white vinegar, baking soda, or mild detergent onto it and blot the stain again using the same cloth. Repeat these steps until the stain is gone.
* Important Note: White vinegar is especially effective at removing cat urine because it breaks down the uric acid in it.
Protect and Deodorize
- Rotate Your Rug: Rotate your rug once a year to ensure even wear. The rotation may vary from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the foot traffic it is exposed to.
- Use Carpet Protectors: Keep your area rugs cleaner for longer with rug protectors that help prevent damage from dirt, spills, and UV exposure.
- Use a Rug Pad: Placing padding underneath your rug will decrease the need for rug repair services, while also helping your rugs maintain their shape and reduce wrinkling. Another added benefit is that these will help keep rugs from sliding on hard surfaces.
- Use a Deodorizer: Neutralize odors from pets, kids, and more that get trapped in the fibers of your rug.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are area rugs made out of?
Area rugs are made from a variety of materials, each offering unique benefits in terms of durability, feel, and appearance. Natural fibers are a popular choice for their eco-friendliness and quality. Wool is one of the most common materials, renowned for its softness, durability, and natural resistance to stains. It’s excellent for high-traffic areas and is often found in traditional or hand-knotted rugs. Cotton is another natural option that’s lightweight, affordable, and usually machine-washable, making it a good fit for casual settings, though it’s less durable than wool.
For a more luxurious feel, silk offers a soft texture and a natural sheen, though it is more delicate and better suited for low-traffic or decorative areas. Plant-based fibers like jute, sisal, and seagrass add texture and a rustic charm to a space. These materials are eco-friendly but tend to be rougher underfoot. Rugs made from leather or cowhide are stylish and unique, offering durability and a modern aesthetic, although they can be more challenging to clean.
In contrast, synthetic fibers are often chosen for their affordability, durability, and ease of maintenance. Nylon is a strong and resilient fiber that withstands wear and tear well, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas. Polypropylene, also known as olefin, is stain- and moisture-resistant, making it ideal for indoor/outdoor rugs. Though not as soft as wool, it offers good durability. Polyester offers a soft feel and vibrant color options at a lower cost, but it may wear out faster in high-traffic areas. Acrylic mimics the feel of wool and resists mildew and fading, though it’s less durable over time.
Many area rugs are also made from blended fibers, combining the strengths of different materials to offer a balance of comfort, durability, and cost. For example, blending wool with synthetic fibers like nylon can create a rug that is both soft and long-lasting. The choice of rug material often depends on where the rug will be placed, how much traffic the area receives, and the desired look and feel.
How much does area rug cleaning cost?
The cost of area rug cleaning is determined by the size and material of the rug. You can obtain a quote for your Turkish rug cleaning or Asian rug cleaning by completing our online form or contacting our rug cleaning specialists at (715) 200-4648 . From time to time, we offer rug cleaning specials. Visit our Specials page to see if we have any current promotions available.
Can you steam clean area rugs?
We are often asked about steam cleaning area rugs. Chem Master Restoration does not use steam to clean your valuable natural fiber rugs. We use a process called hot water extraction to clean synthetic rugs, which is often referred to as steam cleaning due to the steam visible during the cleaning process.
